About
Mostly Autumn have spent decades building a devoted following the old fashioned way, through relentless touring and total independence from major labels. The York band fuse the sprawling, textured sound of 1970s progressive rock, think Genesis and Pink Floyd filtered through Celtic folk, hard rock, and emotionally charged melodies, earning comparisons to Renaissance, Jethro Tull and Camel along the way. Their run of albums from the late 1990s onward cemented their reputation, and Rick Wright of Pink Floyd was among those praising their work. The band has seen plenty of lineup shifts over the years, with vocalist Heather Findlay stepping down in 2010 and Olivia Sparnenn moving into the lead role, a transition marked by the album Go Well Diamond Heart. Sparnenn later married bandleader Bryan Josh. Through all the changes, the core approach has stayed consistent: self financed albums released on their own label, often as limited editions, and a catalogue that now stretches well into double figures.
