Cameron Picton spent years as the bassist and vocalist for Black Midi, one of the most talked about bands in recent British rock. When Black Midi went on hiatus in 2024, he didn't sit still for long. My New Band Believe formed in 2025 around Picton on lead vocals and guitar, backed by a rotating cast of musicians covering drums, bass, guitar, keys, and saxophone. Before the band even had a name out there, Picton had been quietly releasing demos and live recordings under the alias Camera Picture, partly to take the pressure off and partly to test the water for what was coming. The debut single Lecture 25 arrived in February 2025, and a few days later the band announced their self titled album, which landed in April 2026 to critical acclaim. The record is almost entirely acoustic, a sharp turn from the dense, aggressive sound of Black Midi, pulling in threads of free jazz, sophisti pop, disco, and tropicália. The single Numerology earned particular praise for exactly that reason. Recent videos for Pearls, Kick Me, and Love Story suggest the band has been keeping busy in 2026.
