The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, known as the NBE, is a Dutch wind ensemble of over twenty musicians who refuse to stay in one lane. Since their founding in 1959, they have built a reputation for theatrical, genre crossing concert programmes that blend everything from early classical repertoire to brand new compositions, Western and non Western music alike. Every programme is freshly arranged or newly composed, so nothing ever gets pulled straight off the shelf. For 36 years the oboist Bart Schneemann shaped the NBE's distinctive identity, weaving together musical styles and creating a dramatic arc that connects very different kinds of music and audiences. In 2024 bass trombonist Brandt Attema, a core member since 2000, took over artistic leadership. The ensemble is a fixture at venues like the Concertgebouw and regularly collaborates with artists from across the globe, from Jordi Savall to Barbara Hannigan. Their annual New Year's Concert, broadcast on national television every 1 January, has become a signature event.
