About

Pieter Jan Leusink is a Dutch conductor whose name is inseparable from Bach. His most striking achievement is recording all of Bach's sacred cantatas in just 15 months, in 1999 and 2000, a genuinely mammoth undertaking. He also works extensively with Handel, Mozart, Fauré and Vivaldi, performing across the Netherlands and throughout Europe from England to Latvia. He founded the Holland Boys Choir, which now numbers 80 singers, and later built The Bach Choir and Orchestra from two ensembles he created himself. Together his groups give around 150 concerts a year across the Netherlands. Leusink's reputation has been significantly overshadowed by serious misconduct allegations. In 2018, six women accused him of sexual misconduct, and in June 2022 the Dutch College of Human Rights ruled that he was guilty of sexual harassment following complaints dating back to the period 2012 to 2016. The case has been cited as a prominent example of DARVO tactics in the Dutch cultural sector.
