Oi Va Voi take their name from a Yiddish exclamation meaning roughly "oh my gosh", and that sense of cultural rootedness runs through everything they do. The London band built their sound by weaving Klezmer and Jewish folk traditions together with house, drum and bass, and hip hop, learning their Klezmer craft from masters including Frank London of The Klezmatics before turning it into something entirely their own. Their self released debut Digital Folklore earned a BBC World Music Award nomination and got them a deal with Outcaste Records, where they made Laughter Through Tears with KT Tunstall contributing vocals, an album that won the Edison Jazz prize for best world music album in 2004. They kept going from there, releasing a self titled third album and then Travelling the Face of the Globe in 2009. More recently they have been sharing live performances including a session for VPRO TV in the Netherlands, playing tracks like Vanished World and Refugee.
