About
Olga Scheps plays with the kind of emotional directness that makes romantic piano repertoire feel genuinely alive rather than museum piece stiff. The Cologne based German pianist, born in Moscow, has built her reputation on a deep affinity with Chopin and Russian composers, channeling what she describes as an actress inhabiting a script rather than just a performer hitting notes. Her debut album Chopin on RCA Red Seal landed well with critics and earned her an ECHO Klassik Newcomer of the Year award in 2010, launching a recording career that has since taken in Schubert, Satie, Tchaikovsky, and even an unlikely Scooter piano covers record. On stage she is no less busy, performing regularly at venues like the Berlin Philharmonie, the Wiener Musikverein and the Kölner Philharmonie, and working with orchestras from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to the Monte Carlo Philharmonic. Chamber music is also part of the picture, with collaborations alongside cellists Jan Vogler and Alban Gerhardt and violinist Daniel Hope. Recent live footage captures her tackling Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, a sign that her appetite for the big romantic concerto repertoire shows no sign of fading.
