About

Also known as: Bolshem People, Ozrics, The Ozrics

Formed at the Stonehenge Free Festival in 1983, Ozric Tentacles got their name from a conversation about imaginary breakfast cereals, which is why cereal references keep popping up across their album titles and artwork. The Somerset band built their following the old fashioned way, through bootleg cassettes and marathon festival sets that sometimes ran until sunrise, all without ever signing to a major label. That grassroots hustle paid off: over 30 albums, more than a million copies sold, and a reputation as one of the key forces behind the UK festival scene's revival, closely tied to Glastonbury. Their sound pulls from an unusually wide pool: psychedelic rock, space rock, progressive rock, dub, jazz fusion, electronic music, and world music all collide in dense, instrumental layers. Guitarist and co founder Ed Wynne is the one constant through countless lineup changes, steering the band's signature mix of synthesizers, guitars, and samplers. They hit No. 1 on the UK Indie Chart with "Sploosh!" and have kept releasing music well into the 2020s, with "Deep Blue Shade" appearing as recently as 2023.
