About
Pan Amsterdam is the alter ego of Leron Thomas, a jazz musician originally from Houston who built a reputation through collaborations with Iggy Pop and the British indie group Metronomy before relocating to New York and shifting toward adventurous, genre crossing hip hop. The project grew out of frustration and was named after a misunderstanding, which gives you some idea of the off kilter spirit behind it. His fourth album, Confines, is an experimental blend of hip hop and electronic sounds that takes aim at the scroll driven numbness of contemporary culture, while somehow still sounding like a funky, high energy party. The combination of jazz instincts, leftfield beats and sharp rhymes makes Pan Amsterdam a genuinely hard to categorize act.
