About
Panchiko's story starts with a mystery. Their demo EP D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, a run of about thirty self burned CD Rs passed around friends in Nottingham back in 2000, turned up in an Oxfam charity shop in 2016, where a 4chan user found it and shared it online. The disc had warped with age, its sound smeared by disc rot, which only deepened the intrigue and sparked a dedicated cult following hunting for any trace of the band. The music itself draws from a wide pool, with Radiohead, DJ Shadow, Air and Joy Division all audible somewhere in its emo, dream pop and trip hop textures. When a fan finally tracked down frontman Owain Davies on Facebook in 2020, the band reformed and got to work. They reissued and remastered their early material, and in 2023 released their proper debut album Failed at Math(s), followed by the second studio album Ginkgo in April 2025. What began as an accidental internet legend has turned into an actual working band, racking up over ten million Spotify streams and building a fanbase far beyond what any unsigned act from Nottingham could have imagined in 2001.
