About
San Antonio hard rock outfit Pariah had a rough but compelling run in the early 1990s, orbiting around the heavy sounds of bands like Guns N' Roses while carrying some serious Texas music lineage. Drummer Shandon Sahm was the son of legendary Texas musician Doug Sahm, and the band built a discography across three albums, starting with the independently released Rattle Your Skull in 1989, then Make Believe in 1992, and finally To Mock A Killingbird on Geffen Records in 1993. When Geffen dropped them, bassist Sims Ellison fell into a deep depression and took his own life in 1995. The band dissolved immediately, and Sahm and guitarist Kyle Ellison later joined the Meat Puppets in 1999. Out of the tragedy came something lasting: The Sims Foundation, a charity supporting musicians and their families dealing with mental health issues, was created in Sims Ellison's memory.
