Burial built his reputation in near total mystery, releasing music for years before anyone outside a handful of people knew who was behind it. As the first artist signed to Hyperdub, the South London producer's 2006 self titled debut made an immediate mark on UK electronic music, weaving dark, emotive takes on UK garage and 2 step into something that felt genuinely new. The Wire named it album of the year, and his follow up Untrue cemented him as one of electronic music's most important voices. Since Untrue, Burial has steered clear of the conventional album format, favouring long form EPs and sprawling multi part tracks that push further into experimental territory. Collaborations with Four Tet, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke and The Bug sit alongside his solo work, all of it sharing that signature blend of fractured breakbeats, pitch shifted vocals, vinyl crackle and rain soaked atmosphere. He has also composed film scores, and his output has kept coming steadily into the mid 2020s.
