Paul Kalkbrenner is a German electronic music producer and live act who builds his sets by breaking tracks down into their elements and reassembling them on stage, which puts him firmly in live performance territory rather than the DJ booth. His biggest moment came with "Sky and Sand", a track featuring vocals from his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner, which sold over 200,000 copies and went platinum. The song was part of the Berlin Calling soundtrack, a film in which Kalkbrenner also starred as Ickarus, a DJ mentally unravelled by the scene. The movie became a cult classic across Europe and ran for over 145 weeks straight at Kino Central in Berlin. His label, Paul Kalkbrenner Musik, gave him the creative freedom he wanted after a decade with BPitch Control, and his album Icke Wieder hit number two in the German charts and went gold. Guten Tag topped the Swiss charts in 2013. More recently, he released the single "Dreaming On", which samples Depeche Mode's "Dream On" in what marked the first time the band ever cleared one of their samples for use in another release.
