About
Berlin based Swedish bassist Petter Eldh has built a reputation as one of the more restless and collaborative figures in European jazz. He moves fluidly between straight ahead jazz, avant garde territory, and free improvisation, and has racked up credits alongside the likes of Django Bates, Marius Neset, and Lucia Cadotsch. His work with Bates on the Charlie Parker tribute Confirmation and his recording with Schneeweiss und Rosenrot, which earned the New German Jazz Award in 2012, give a good sense of how wide his range actually is. He has been a fixture in several ongoing groups, including a trio with Wanja Slavin and Christian Lillinger, and a trio with Kaja Draksler and Lillinger. In 2019 he founded the saxophone heavy quintet KomaSaxo, teaming up with Otis Sandsjö, Jonas Kullhammar, Mikko Innanen, and Lillinger again. Between ECM sessions and scrappier small label records, Eldh keeps turning up in interesting corners of the European scene.
