Ray Wilson is probably best known as the man who stepped into Phil Collins's shoes when Genesis needed a new frontman in the mid 1990s. Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford heard his voice on the Stiltskin album The Mind's Eye and were impressed enough to audition him over several other candidates, including Nick Van Eede and Francis Dunnery. Wilson got the gig, and the resulting Genesis album Calling All Stations reached the top 10 worldwide. His style brought something darker and more atmospheric to the band's sound compared to the Collins era. Before Genesis, Wilson had already made a serious splash as the lead singer of Stiltskin, whose debut single Inside topped charts across Europe on the back of a Levi's commercial. After his time with Genesis wound down, he built a solid solo catalogue, releasing albums like Change, The Next Best Thing, and Song for a Friend. Trance producer Armin van Buuren even remixed two tracks from Wilson's solo project Cut_, placing his voice in a very different sonic world. He has kept busy ever since, performing solo material alongside the occasional Genesis deep dive.
