About
Also known as: FORD Robben, Robben Lee Ford, ロベン・フォード
Few guitarists move as fluidly between blues, jazz and rock as Robben Ford, the California raised six stringer who earned a spot on Musician magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century. His career reads like a who's who of serious music: he backed George Harrison on tour, played on Joni Mitchell's classic albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns and Miles of Aisles with the L.A. Express, and spent time in Miles Davis's band in 1986. His second solo album Talk to Your Daughter from 1988 is a landmark in his catalog, and the 1990s run of Robben Ford and the Blue Line, Mystic Mile and Handful of Blues showed him fully owning the blues side of his sound. Ford's guitar tone is a big part of his identity. He built a long relationship with Dumble Amplifiers, and Fender produced a Robben Ford Signature model for years before eventually moving production to the Custom Shop. He has five Grammy nominations to his name and has contributed lead guitar to albums ranging from Joni Mitchell to Kiss, which gives you a sense of just how wide his reach really is.
