Walter Trout has spent decades as one of the most committed blues guitarists working today, cutting his teeth as a sideman for John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thornton, and Percy Mayfield before landing the lead guitarist slot in Canned Heat and then John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, where he followed in the footsteps of Peter Green and Eric Clapton. He left the Bluesbreakers in 1989 to front his own band, and his debut album Life in the Jungle quickly built a devoted following in Europe, particularly Scandinavia. His story took a serious turn in 2013 when he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and spent eight months in a hospital bed after a liver transplant, losing the ability to speak, walk, and play guitar. He clawed it all back, and his 2015 album Battle Scars documented the whole brutal experience. His 2019 record Survivor Blues debuted at number one on the Billboard Blues Chart and stayed in the top ten for twelve weeks. More recently he has been releasing new tracks including collaborations with Beth Hart and Dee Snider, showing no signs of slowing down.
