About
Roufaida is a Dutch Moroccan singer whose debut came with an untitled EP in 2023. Two tracks from it, Don't Bend and Kalimat, caught attention well beyond the Netherlands. Her influences range from Rosalía and Björk to Arooj Aftab and Arabic poetry, and she weaves all of that into a sound that sits somewhere between indie pop and electronics. A distinctive element is the gimbri, the fretless Moroccan string instrument, which gives her music an earthy, resonant undertone. She has played festivals including Down The Rabbit Hole and ITGWO, and has since released a debut album titled Coming Up For Air. Alongside her electronic club sets she also performs in a stripped back acoustic format, which brings a more intimate side of her songwriting to the surface.
