Signing to Ninja Tune was a long time coming for Felix Nyajo, the Austrian producer and DJ who goes by Salute. They first turned heads as a teenager with remixes of Aaliyah's "Rock the Boat" and Sam Smith's "Money on My Mind", though they'd later admit the Smith remix was basically a Flume imitation they knocked out at the last minute. That self awareness says a lot about where Salute has gone since. Moving through Brighton and Manchester, they built a catalogue of EPs that got progressively more personal, especially the Condition trilogy, which processed grief after losing both grandparents in 2017. The Shield EP in 2023 was another step forward, featuring George Daniel as a co producer and No Rome as a collaborator, and it was the first time Salute put their own voice on a record. Their 2024 full length debut True Magic, a concept album built around Japanese car racing culture, pulled in Rina Sawayama, Disclosure, and Empress Of, and landed at number 5 on the UK Dance Albums Chart.
