Salvador Sobral made history at Eurovision 2017 by winning Portugal's first ever victory in the contest, scoring a record breaking 758 points with the song 'Amar pelos dois', written by his sister Luísa Sobral. The win came despite serious health challenges: he had a heart condition that kept him off stage during early rehearsals, and later that year he underwent a successful heart transplant. His musical taste runs deep, drawing on jazz, bossa nova and soul, and he is a devoted fan of Chet Baker, Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque. Beyond Eurovision, Sobral has built a genuinely varied catalogue. His debut album Excuse Me arrived in 2016, and his second record Paris, Lisboa found him singing in four languages across thirteen countries. His third album BPM, released in 2021, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album. He also fronts Alexander Search, a rock project tied to the poetry of Fernando Pessoa, alongside pianist Júlio Resende.
