About
Sari Schorr's voice carries so much range that classical teachers once pushed her toward opera, but she chose the blues instead, and that decision has served her well. The Queens born singer and songwriter built her chops over years of touring as a backing vocalist with Joe Louis Walker and Popa Chubby before veteran producer Mike Vernon caught her performing at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and came out of retirement just to make her debut record. That album, A Force of Nature, dropped in 2016 and featured Walter Trout on guitar, a reworking of Black Betty that she later performed at a Lead Belly tribute at Carnegie Hall, and her own take on Stop! In the Name of Love. She has kept busy since, releasing the live to tape sophomore record Never Say Never in 2018 and a full live album, Live in Europe, in 2020. She has also lent her voice to Robin Trower's 2023 album Joyful Sky on Provogue Records, and contributed to Amnesty International's Toast to Freedom alongside Warren Haynes, Taj Mahal, Eric Burdon and Carly Simon. In 2015 she was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.
