About
Eric Steckel has been playing blues guitar longer than most people have been paying attention to it. He recorded his debut album at age 11 and went on to become the youngest musician ever to perform with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, a milestone that set the tone for a career spent punching well above his age. He has shared bills with Johnny Winter, Gregg Allman, Ray Charles, Robben Ford and others, touring extensively across Europe and the US across more than a dozen albums. Around 2018, Steckel started calling his sound 'bluesmetal', leaning into heavier guitar tones and more modern production while keeping the blues at its core. His 2020 album Grandview Drive pushed that direction further, and he handled nearly all production himself. The Steakhouse Sessions Vol. 1, recorded live in one take at Steve Lukather's North Hollywood studio with no overdubs or autotune, shows exactly what he sounds like when there is nowhere to hide. Guitar Player named him one of their ten future blues stars to watch in 2021, and Total Guitar ranked him among the 100 greatest blues guitarists of all time in 2024.
