Few jazz vocalists can claim a No. 1 album in their home country and a Top 10 hit in Japan at the same time, but Silje Nergaard pulled that off early in her career. The Norwegian singer and songwriter broke through internationally with "Tell Me Where You're Going," a 1990 single featuring Pat Metheny on guitar, and never really looked back. Her album At First Light became the best selling Norwegian jazz album ever recorded, entering the Norwegian chart at No. 1 in its first week. Over the decades she has worked with an impressive range of collaborators, including Al Jarreau, Toots Thielemans, and John Scofield, and her 2009 recording with the Metropole Orchestra found serious audiences across both Europe and Asia. Her 2012 album Unclouded saw her covering The Killers alongside original material, showing a willingness to push beyond strict genre boundaries. With releases continuing into the 2020s, including Houses and the 2025 album Tomorrow We'll Figure Out The Rest, she remains one of Norway's most consistently active jazz artists.
