About
Snapped Ankles perform in ghillie suits, insist they are "forest folk descended from the trees", and build their sound around homemade log synths, electrified guitars and what their label calls "sticks beating hell on taut animal skin". The London post punk group have been doing this since forming in East London in 2011, and it has produced five studio albums on The Leaf Label, each with a distinct personality. Their debut Come Play the Trees drew comparisons to "a pagan Can or a forested Fall", while follow up Stunning Luxury turned the lens on urban life, attacking gentrification in a Gang of Four style. Forest of Your Problems got Rough Trade's Album of the Month and was described as "woodwose krautrock". Their fifth album Hard Times Furious Dancing arrived in early 2025, and recent videos for tracks like "Raoul", "Pay the Rent" and "Smart World" suggest the energy is well intact.
