Few bands have made such a virtue of chaos as Fat White Family. Formed in a Peckham squat in 2011, this South London group built their reputation on ferociously unpredictable live shows, lo fi garage rock with a post punk sneer, and lyrics that drag uncomfortable truths into the light. Their 2014 single "Touch the Leather" remains a defining moment, a sleazy minimalist groove that announced them to a wider world, and their 2019 album Serfs Up! showed they could evolve without going soft, folding in disco influences and lush production while keeping the subversion intact. The band's chaotic story got its own book in 2022, when frontman Lias Saoudi and writer Adelle Stripe co wrote Ten Thousand Apologies, shortlisted for the 2023 Penderyn Music Book Prize. Their fourth album, Forgiveness Is Yours, followed in 2024, with recent videos for "Touch the Leather" and "Bullet of Dignity" keeping them very much in motion. Side projects including Warmduscher, the Moonlandingz and Insecure Men have spun off from the group, suggesting a creative restlessness that shows no sign of fading.
