Sombr, the stage name of New York born Shane Michael Boose, went from posting indie pop songs online to landing in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 almost overnight, thanks to two songs that took over TikTok in early 2025. Those two tracks, "Back to Friends" and "Undressed", both cracked the top five in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, with "Undressed" topping the Irish Singles Chart entirely. The viral momentum translated into real critical recognition too, including a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and a win at the 2025 MTV VMAs for Best Alternative Video. His debut album, I Barely Know Her, dropped in August 2025 and collected strong reviews from Rolling Stone, NME, and Variety, while reaching the top ten of the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. The follow up singles "We Never Dated" and "12 to 12" kept the streak going, with "12 to 12" hitting the top ten in Australia, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and the UK. His sound sits comfortably in indie pop and pop rock territory, with a knack for emotionally direct songwriting that clearly connects.
