SYML is the solo project of Brian Fennell, an American indie folk artist from Issaquah, Washington, who performs under a Welsh word meaning "simple". That name nods to his biological Welsh heritage, and it shapes more than just the branding: grief, loss, and identity run through almost everything he makes. His now Platinum certified single "Where's My Love" became a slow burn hit after it was placed in the TV series Teen Wolf, then charted for 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart and hit number one twice on Canada's CBC Top 20. His 2023 album The Day My Father Died, produced by Phil Ek, digs into mourning with contributions from Lucius, Guy Garvey, Sara Watkins, and Charlotte Lawrence. That same year his instrumental track "I Wanted to Leave" got a remarkable second life when Lana Del Rey sampled it for "Paris, Texas" on her album Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. His third studio album Nobody Lives Here followed in April 2025.
