About
TAPE TOY are an Amsterdam based four piece who won the Amsterdamse Popprijs in 2017 and have been building a devoted following ever since. Their sound started out as what the band themselves called "bubble grunge", breezy guitar rock with an infectious energy, but things got considerably heavier and more personal with their 2022 debut album Honey, WTF. That record was shaped by frontwoman Roos van Tuil processing some serious personal loss, and the darker tone came through clearly in the music. Their 2023 EP TTYS, short for Talk To You Soon, swung the mood back toward something brighter. More recently, TAPE TOY signed to Mattan Records and have been pushing their sound in new directions. Singles like Anyone, Anything and Shotgun brought in samples and shoegaze textures alongside their usual guitar driven style. They capped off 2024 with a show at the Melkweg where they debuted their new EP Launch The Rocket, suggesting the band is in a restless, exploratory phase that suits them well.
