Few bands have had a comeback quite like Texas. The Glasgow outfit spent the early nineties grinding through modest chart positions before a shout out from Chris Evans on TFI Friday in 1997 helped catapult them back into the spotlight. White on Blonde hit number one in the UK and spawned five consecutive top ten singles, including a reworked version of their breakthrough hit featuring the Wu Tang Clan. Certified six times platinum in the UK, it remains one of the defining British pop rock albums of that decade. Sharleen Spiteri's soulful voice has always been the band's anchor, sitting somewhere between blue eyed soul and anthemic rock. Their 2021 album Hi debuted at number three in the UK and went straight to number one in Scotland, proving their pull is anything but spent. Over a career stretching back to their 1989 debut single "I Don't Want a Lover", they have sold 40 million records worldwide, a number that tends to silence any doubts about their staying power.
