Few groups can claim a chart run stretching across six consecutive decades, but the Isley Brothers pulled it off, landing Billboard Hot 100 hits from the 1950s all the way through to 2001, a feat that earned them a Guinness World Record. Starting out as a gospel vocal trio in Cincinnati, they pivoted to soul and R&B, scored a million seller with "Shout" in 1959, and never really stopped. Along the way they recorded "Twist and Shout", gave Jimi Hendrix one of his earliest gigs as a backing guitarist, and built their own label, T Neck Records, giving them the creative freedom that produced the Grammy winning "It's Your Thing". When younger brothers Ernie and Marvin joined in 1973 alongside brother in law Chris Jasper, the group transformed into a full band and hit a creative peak with albums like 3 + 3 and The Heat Is On, the latter topping the Billboard 200. Thirteen of their albums earned RIAA gold or platinum certification, and in 1992 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame came calling. Ronald and Ernie have kept the group going into the 21st century, delivering hits like "Contagious" and collaborating with everyone from R. Kelly to Santana.
