About
Tommy Castro plays blues the way it was meant to feel: raw, soulful, and impossible to ignore. The San Jose guitarist and singer has been at it since the mid 1990s, blending Memphis soul, Chicago blues, and roadhouse rock into a sound that critics have compared to Otis Redding with a searing guitar in hand. His album Painkiller won the 2008 Blues Music Award for Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, and 2010 saw him sweep multiple Blues Music Awards including Blues Male Artist, Band of the Year, and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. In 2011 he trimmed his lineup down to a tight four piece he calls the Painkillers, and the results have been some of his sharpest work. The Devil You Know brought in guests like Joe Bonamassa, Tab Benoit, and Marcia Ball, while Method To My Madness debuted at number four on the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. His 2017 release Stompin' Ground featured Charlie Musselwhite and Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo, keeping that tradition of heavyweight guests very much alive.
