About
Toontje Lager were one of the most popular Dutch language bands of the early 1980s, coming out of Wageningen in the Netherlands. The group made their name with nederpop and hollands, delivering hits like 'Net als in de Film', 'Zoveel te doen' and 'Stiekem gedanst', alongside a deeper catalogue that includes 'Vroeg of laat', 'Lente in Twente' and 'Het doet pijn'. After more than thirty years away, the band returned in a renewed lineup still fronted by singer Erik Mesie, whose voice remains the signature sound of the group. Erik also scored a solo hit in 1986 with the tender 'Zonder jou'. Three of the band's key albums, 'Erop of eronder', 'Stiekem dansen' and 'Even goeie vrienden', were remastered and released on vinyl as well as digitally. The band also put out a new album titled 'Waar gaan we heen', featuring fifteen songs that sit squarely in the classic Toontje Lager mould.
