About
Het Goede Doel built one of the most remarkable runs in Dutch pop history on the strength of sharp, witty songwriting from the duo at their core, Henk Westbroek and Henk Temming. Their 1982 debut album België went platinum and became the best selling Dutch debut album of that year, driven by hits like 'België (Is er leven op Pluto?)', 'Vriendschap' and 'Hou van mij'. The band even caught a radio boycott on single 'Gijzelaar', which only added to their notoriety. Through the 1980s they kept pushing their sound in new directions, from the more reflective Tempo Doeloe to theatrical live shows combining music with juggling, dancing and acting. Their 1988 collaboration 'Alles kan een mens gelukkig maken' with René Froger hit number one across the board. After breaking up in 1991, Westbroek and Temming eventually returned, releasing three more albums and reuniting the classic lineup for a 2001 anniversary show. Their nederpop legacy remains a cornerstone of Dutch popular music.
