Vienna's Tosca, the duo of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber, spent the 1990s and 2000s quietly cementing themselves as one of the key acts in downtempo and chillout. Dorfmeister brought his electronic production chops from his work with Kruder & Dorfmeister, while Huber came from an experimental music background with compositions featured at Centre Pompidou and Ars Electronica. Their debut single 'Chocolate Elvis' landed in 1994 on G Stone Recordings, and a run of albums including Suzuki, Dehli9 and J.A.C. are widely considered milestones of the genre. The Tosca sound is warm, laid back and occasionally melancholic, mixing electronic textures with live instrumentation and a distinctly unhurried groove. Over the years they have pushed things further into ambient territory, brought in vocalists like Sarah Callier and Rodney Hunter, and kept the remix culture alive with a steady stream of dub reworks. Their catalogue now stretches to nine studio albums, the most recent being Osam in 2022.
