About
Also known as: Roel van Velzen, Van Velzen, Vanvelzen
VanVelzen, the stage name of Dutch singer songwriter Roel van Velzen, built one of the most enviable live reputations in the Netherlands, playing virtually every festival in the country and sharing stages with Bon Jovi, Kelly Clarkson, and Queen's Brian May. His debut album Unwind hit number one on the Dutch charts in 2007 and stayed there for over a year, picking up the TMF Award for Best Album and the 3FM Award for Best Newcomer along the way. His biggest international moment came when DJ Armin van Buuren remixed his track "Broken Tonight", pushing it to number 18 on the US Hot Dance Chart. He also co created the concept behind The Voice of Holland, the blind audition format that has since spread worldwide, and mentored the show's first winner. The Golden Harp, one of the most prestigious honours in Dutch music, recognized his contribution to pop in the Netherlands.
