About
Vuur is the heavy side of Anneke van Giersbergen, the Dutch vocalist best known for her years fronting The Gathering. Formed in 2016, the band was built specifically to channel her progressive metal instincts, a contrast to the more delicate textures of her solo work. The lineup brought together musicians she already knew well, including members with credits in bands like ReVamp, Stream of Passion, Gorefest and Ayreon. Their debut album In This Moment We Are Free, Cities landed in October 2017 and was already being followed up in the writing room almost immediately. The road to the record had a bump early on: original co vocalist Marcela Bovio parted ways with the band before recording began, citing creative differences over vocal direction. By late 2019 Vuur was placed on hold, but what they left behind makes a strong case for what this lineup was capable of.
