Waylon, the stage name of Willem Bijkerk from Apeldoorn, moves fluidly between country, rock, soul and pop, and country has been the thread running through his work from the very start. His album Time Jumper captures that love most directly: he recorded it with The Time Jumpers, a collective of Nashville musicians who blend western swing, classic country and jazz into something at once virtuosic and nostalgic. Waylon describes the record as a tribute to the music he grew up caring about, made without compromise. Beyond his singing, he has built a broad profile in the Netherlands, including a breakthrough in 2008, a stint as a coach on The Voice of Holland, and a turn representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest. On stage he is as much a storyteller as a vocalist, mixing music with the kind of funny, moving and sharp anecdotes that keep an audience leaning in.
