About
World News are a London band that has quietly built a serious buzz on the back of jangly, throwback guitar music. They blend post punk and new wave with indie rock, and critics keep reaching for the same reference points: The Smiths, The Clash, Talk Talk, Real Estate and Parquet Courts. The Line of Best Fit even floated the idea that they could be the best power trio since The Police after hearing "Wrapped in Gold." The line up is Alex Evans on lead vocals and lead guitar, Rory Evans on bass, Malte Henning on drums and Jack Tollman on rhythm guitar. They started with the Job and Money EP in 2020, followed by Flag With No Pole in 2023 and a double hit of EPs in 2024, Escape and Mindsnap. Stereogum put them on its list of the 40 best new artists of 2024, and The Fader tipped them as one to watch for 2025. More recently, singles like "Sidestep" have earned them praise as festival sized and anthemic.
