About
Chinese American Bear is a Seattle based pop duo made up of married couple Lingbo Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, and their sound sits somewhere between psychedelic pop and C pop, with songs that slip between Mandarin and English mid verse. The band name comes from the pet name the two use for each other in Mandarin, and that warmth carries through to their live shows, where Tong leads the crowd in Mandarin singalongs while a dancer in a dumpling hat bounces around and plushie boba gets launched into the audience. Their 2024 album Wah!!! put them on the map in a bigger way, landing at number 49 on KEXP's listener voted best albums of the year and earning a spot on The Seattle Times' list of the best Washington albums of 2024. Songs like "Feelin' Fuzzy" dig into the experience of growing up in an immigrant Chinese household, while "Yummy Yummy Yummy" is, honestly, just about slurping noodles. Their third album Dim Sum & Then Sum arrived in 2026, with KEXP describing it as "another collection of playful, hook laden indie pop goodness".
