About
ZO! Gospel Choir has spent years building a reputation as one of the Netherlands' most compelling live acts, known for rich harmonies, strong lead vocals and a sound that draws on authentic gospel traditions. Their show "Songs of Slavery and Freedom" is a musical tribute to the resilience and will to survive of enslaved ancestors, tracing a journey from the forced crossing out of Africa to the plantations of the New World, where spirituals gradually grew into Black Gospel. The programme weaves together modern spirituals, reworked hymns and gospel songs in inventive arrangements, with the human voice at the centre of it all. The production played to enthusiastic audiences at the Concertgebouw, the Wilminktheater and the Schouwburg Concertzaal in Tilburg, directed by Kelsey Blikslager.
