Quantic (DJ)

Will Holland, the English musician and producer who records as Quantic, has built a genuinely unusual career by immersing himself in the sounds he loves rather than just sampling them. He plays guitar, bass, double bass, piano, organ, saxophone, accordion and percussion, and most of his output is original composition rather than loops borrowed from someone else's records. His music pulls together cumbia, salsa, bossa nova, funk, soul and jazz into something that feels both studiously researched and surprisingly alive. After releasing heavy soul and funk on his own Magnetic Fields label in the early 2000s, he relocated to Cali, Colombia in 2007, set up an analogue studio called Sonido del Valle, and started working with local musicians through projects like Quantic presenta Flowering Inferno and the Combo Bárbaro. His collaboration with Nickodemus on "Mi swing es tropical" even ended up on an Apple iPod TV commercial. In 2018 he founded the Brooklyn based label Selva, which has been home to his output since 2020.
