About

Air Traffic have a name that came straight from their rehearsal space, an industrial unit next to Hurn Airport where air traffic control signals would bleed into their amplifiers. That kind of accidental inspiration suits a band whose sound is hard to pin down neatly: heavy on piano, buzzing with energy, and described by NME as "Supergrass covering Little Richard". The Bournemouth four piece signed to EMI and broke through with their debut album Fractured Life, which landed to strong reviews in 2007. The single "Shooting Star" debuted at number 30 in the UK Singles Chart, and the band picked up Radio 1 support from both Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe. After a hiatus that stretched through most of the 2010s, Air Traffic reunited with all four original members in 2017 to mark ten years of Fractured Life, selling out London venues and multiple nights at Het Depot in Belgium almost instantly. They followed that run with further shows including a main stage slot at Rock Werchter 2018 in front of 60,000 people, sharing the bill with Pearl Jam and The Killers. More recently the band has been teasing a vinyl reissue and expanded CD edition of Fractured Life to mark the album's 20th anniversary.
