About

Also known as: Alison Lewis, Alyson Moyet, Geneviève Alison Jane Moyet

Few voices in British pop carry the weight that Alison Moyet's contralto does. She first turned heads as one half of Yazoo alongside Vince Clarke, the synth duo responsible for tracks like "Only You", "Don't Go" and "Nobody's Diary". When Clarke dissolved the group in 1983, Moyet launched a solo run that proved just as substantial, starting with her debut album Alf in 1984, which hit number one in the UK and produced the hit "All Cried Out". Her 1985 cover of "That Ole Devil Called Love" remains her highest charting UK single, peaking at number two. Over ten studio albums, Moyet has consistently landed in the UK top 30, with worldwide certified sales now past 23 million albums. Her range has taken her from synth pop to soul, blues, and art pop, and she has worked with artists including Tricky, Ocean Colour Scene and King Britt. A memorable Live Aid moment in 1985 saw her step up unscheduled to provide vocals on "Let It Be" when Paul McCartney's microphone cut out. Her most recent studio album is Other, released in 2017.
