About
Ankor started out as a power metal band in Catalonia back in 2003, but they've come a long way from those roots. These days their sound blends alternative metal and metalcore with electronic touches, and the influences are genuinely eclectic: Japanese culture, Falling in Reverse, Maximum the Hormone, hip hop, and even classical music all get namechecked by vocalist Jessie Williams. Bringing in the British screamer in 2014 was a deliberate move toward a global audience, partly because metal just doesn't have the same pull in Spain. The band has six studio albums under their belt, with the most recent being Shoganai, released in 2024 through Australian label UNFD. That signing felt like a statement of intent, and the record leans into the band's more internationally minded, genre blurring direction. Guitarists David Romeu and Fito Martinez, bassist Julio López, and drummer Eleni Nota round out the current lineup, making Ankor one of the more interesting metal acts to come out of Spain.
