About

Augustin Hadelich plays violin at a level that turns last minute substitutions into career making moments. When he stepped in for Julian Rachlin at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2008, or covered for Nikolaj Znaider at the New York Philharmonic two years later, he made it look easy. That kind of readiness comes from serious range: Hadelich moves comfortably from the big Romantic concertos of Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky to tricky contemporary works by György Ligeti, Thomas Adès and Henri Dutilleux. That Dutilleux concerto is what earned him a Grammy in 2016, recorded with the Seattle Symphony. He has since picked up an Opus Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year award and a Musical America honor with the same title. He currently plays a 1744 Guarneri del Gesu known as the Leduc/Szeryng, on loan through the Tarisio Trust, and since 2021 he has been on the faculty at the Yale School of Music.
