Björn van der Doelen wears several hats at once: musician, storyteller and performer rolled into one. His songs tend to be honest and often funny, landing somewhere between tender love songs and sturdy country. Together with his eight piece band De Huursoldaten he recorded an album in a 300 year old mountain hut in the Austrian Alps, and that experience fed directly into his show Maandag als we rijk zijn. The material covers everyday life in all its small details, from longing and loss to the kind of nostalgia that sneaks up on you. There is a warmth to what he does that feels distinctly Brabantian, grounded and unpretentious, with a good dose of humour woven through the whole thing.
