About
Blood Red Shoes are a two piece from Brighton built around guitarist Laura Mary Carter and drummer Steven Ansell, and their lean setup never stops them from making a genuinely huge noise. The band's name comes from a striking piece of film history: Ginger Rogers reportedly bled into her white dancing shoes during grueling rehearsals with Fred Astaire. That kind of intense, all in spirit runs through their music, which tears through garage rock, grunge and post punk with real force. Since their debut Box of Secrets in 2008, they have put out six studio albums, with Get Tragic arriving in 2019 and Ghosts on Tape in 2022. Along the way they founded their own label, Jazz Life, in 2014. Their song "It's Getting Boring by the Sea" landed a spot on the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack after director Edgar Wright caught them live, and the track later turned up in Misfits and CSI: NY. Carter also handles all the artwork for their releases herself.
