About
Bolis Pupul is the stage name of Belgian musician Boris Zeebroek, and the name itself already tells a story: "Bolis" is how his Chinese grandmother pronounced his real first name, while "Pupul" was a sound his dad repeated to soothe him to sleep. He built his profile through a deeply collaborative relationship with fellow Belgian Charlotte Adigéry, the two having been introduced by the Dewaele brothers of Soulwax. Their debut album Topical Dancer, released in 2022 on the Deewee label, put them both firmly on the map. His solo debut, Letter to Yu, arrived in March 2024 and feels far more personal. Produced alongside the Dewaele brothers at their Ghent studio, the record is a tribute to his late Hong Kong born mother and his Chinese heritage. The lead single "Completely Half" came with a music video shot in Hong Kong by director Bieke Depoorter. Before all of this, Zeebroek played in a synthpop band called Hong Kong Dong, and even appeared in the 2016 film Belgica as part of a fictional band.
