About
Also known as: Hotchip, ホット・チップ
Hot Chip have been quietly one of the most dependable bands in electronic music since the mid 2000s, blending synth pop, house, and indie sensibilities into something that still sounds like nobody else. The London five piece, anchored by Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, broke through with The Warning in 2006, an album shortlisted for the Mercury Prize, and followed it with Made in the Dark, whose euphoric single "Ready for the Floor" peaked at number six in the UK and picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording, losing out to Daft Punk. Over eight albums they have kept shifting their sound without losing what makes them instantly recognisable: warm electronic textures, emotionally direct songwriting, and a genuine feel for the dancefloor. From the disco lean of One Life Stand to the more club oriented push of Freakout/Release in 2022, they have never really settled into a formula. Outside the band, members stay busy with solo projects and DJ sets, and the 2024 re release of the "Ready for the Floor" video shows the track still holds up two decades on.
