About
Brutus are a Czech rock band that calls its sound "true big beat", a nod to the guitar driven bigbít tradition that runs deep in Czech music. They have a loyal following that goes well beyond the big cities, and their own site doubles as a running diary of gigs in village halls, pub courtyards, swimming pool grounds and the occasional punk festival. They keep an archive on their site with song lyrics, chords and mp3s, plus photo galleries and a band history, and the band even slips rhymes and short poems in alongside the music. A diary entry mentions that in the nineties they regularly shared stages with the Maulis brothers, and that one of them would sing Louie Louie with them. A band that writes this much about its own road life clearly cares about the audiences it plays to. Note: a Belgian band of the same name also exists, but it is a different act.
