Chase & Status have spent two decades as one of drum and bass's most restless and versatile outfits. The London duo, Saul Milton and Will Kennard, have pulled in collaborators from across the genre spectrum, working with Plan B, Rihanna, CeeLo Green, Tinie Tempah, and Stormzy along the way, and they run their own independent imprint, MTA Records. Their second album No More Idols debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and went gold in its first week, while their live show has taken them from Download Festival to Roskilde, headlining alongside Metallica on the Orange Stage. In recent years they have shifted into an even bigger gear. Their 2023 to 2024 run saw them land a Brit Award for Producer of the Year, score a UK top four hit with "Baddadan", and then reach number one with "Backbone" featuring Stormzy, their first chart topper. Four singles from the album 2 Ruff, Vol. 1 sat in the UK top 40 simultaneously, something no UK band had managed since 2010. Not bad for a duo that started out getting played on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2004.
